How to Help Jaguars

When habitat is divided, a jaguar may need to move through farms and roads to reach another suitable area. Livestock losses can create conflict, while overhunting reduces wild prey. Addressing one pressure in isolation can leave the others unchanged.

That is why a proposal should explain how land management and animal welfare fit together. A camera trap can supply useful information; a photograph of a jaguar alone does not show that a corridor is protected or that conflict has fallen.

Jaguars live in the Americas; leopards live in Africa and Asia. Jaguars tend to have a heavier build and rosettes with internal spots. Both can have very dark coats commonly called black panthers.
